Meet our exciting speakers
In this one-hour conversation and open discussion, Felicity Wren and Max Timm of the Int’l Screenwriters Association will present a fun, inspiring take on how important your personal story is when pitching and presenting your project. So much of the success that writers find in the film and television industry is based on relationship building, and in any relationship we want to actually like the person we’re communicating with. Felicity and Max will discuss with the audience, how it isn’t just your amazing, successful book or screenplay that gets the attention of Hollywood. It’s you! It’s your unique story, and how that unique story connects to the original work and concept you have developed. If we take the writer out of the story, we just have a bunch of letters and words that string together ideas. Your role as a writer is to present to the world the truth, a message, original entertainment, and…you. This presentation and interactive workshop will help you rediscover the “you” inside your writing.
The road to becoming a television writer is often a twisty and mysterious journey. In this presentation, we will navigate the map of the TV business and decode the process of becoming a TV writer. Topics include: finding representatives, the changing TV cycle and how it affects you, what to do if you don’t live in Los Angeles, and the various paths that lead to the writers’ room.
Travis will discuss developing and producing motion pictures based on inspirational, true stories, sharing his experiences with the #1 independent hit film of 2018, “I Can Only Imagine,” as well as lessons learned from deals gone bad.
We’ll look at movies as efficient vehicles for storytelling, in particular how movies engage the audience and the qualities of stories that translate well to the film medium. Framing this discussion, we’ll look at fundamental screenwriting principles as covered in the Save the Cat canon. These principles form the core of strong screenplays and create the foundation of your screenplay or adaptation.
Congratulations. You’ve made it. Now what? In this presentation, you will take a journey through the life of the working screenwriter. Topics include: What to expect from agents/managers, how to survive the Water Bottle Tour, pitching new projects, landing open writing assignments, coping with Studio development notes, how to do rewrites for actors and directors and dealing with the heartbreak of being removed from a project.
All CWWH attendees are allowed to bring 2 one-sheets of their material. As soon as the conference concludes, attendees will be able to leave their written pitch for up to 2 of the presenters for submission. The presenters have committed to reading each one.
